Meet Liam, our Junior Customer Success Manager
We’re thrilled to introduce Liam, our new Junior Customer Success Manager.
We sat down with Liam to find out more about them and why they want to contribute to the arts and culture sector.
Hi Liam. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and what you did before joining CultureSuite?
Hi, of course! Prior to joining CultureSuite as the new Junior Customer Success Manager, I was busy finishing my Arts & Culture Masters. It focused mainly on the creative industries and the confluence of art and society i.e. the important role of art and creativity in shaping a better future for us all.
What enticed you to join CultureSuite?
First and foremost, I was very much drawn to the international aspects of the organisation. Not only working with clients from a plethora of countries and continents but also being able to work within an international context on a day-to-day basis.
Besides that, seeing the portfolio of websites that CultureSuite has steadily built over the years very much enticed me to join. As someone who is passionate about design and art, it is nice to be in an environment where the quality of what is being offered is evidently held to high standards.
What’s your earliest experience of arts and culture? And how did it influence who you are today?
My first experience with arts and culture was probably through music. My earliest memory that I can recall is hearing ‘A Boy Named Sue’ by Johnny Cash. I couldn’t have been much older than five, and I had absolutely no clue what the lyrics expressed. I remember my dad explaining the lyrics to me and I was simply amazed, not so much by the actual content of it, but more so by the ineffable ability of art to tell stories and reach people from all walks of life.
I think that is where my appreciation of art started and as I got older I gradually became more aware of all the different types of beautiful art that were being created; whether it is Nina Simone singing and playing the piano like only she could, Jackie Chan perfectly balancing martial arts with physical comedy or someone like Patti Smith showing us all that we do not have to limit ourselves to only one form of creative expression.
I think arts and culture are so intrinsically connected that we cannot consider one without the other. It has influenced me in ways that I cannot even begin to comprehend. Whether it has to do with values, creativity, or social aspects, I always consider arts and culture as a pivotal form of knowledge; they can teach us so many things about the world and the unequivocal uniqueness that resides in each and every one of us.
I really consider art as something so beautiful, something that carries with it a certain healing power, both for the creator and the consumer. It’s safe to state that arts and culture plays a prominent role in who I am today.
How would you like to help the sector in your new role?
Seeing all the organisations that are part of the CultureSuite community work day in and day out to make art accessible to the public is inspiring, to say the least. Being able to contribute to this through supporting the diverse group of clients, whether this entails communicating face-to-face or digitally, and with any issues or questions they might run into sounds good to me! Moreover, I am excited to gradually learn more about CultureSuite and the community.
What do you enjoy doing outside of your role at CultureSuite?
I love to be creative. I dabble in graphic design from time to time, and I am currently in the early stages of co-writing a movie script with a good friend of mine. I also really enjoy film photography, there’s a feeling of authenticity attached to it that, in my opinion, cannot be emulated digitally. Recently, I have been spending quite some time trying to capture the region I grew up in on film.
What is the most interesting (be that cool, random or otherwise!) thing that’s ever happened to you?
Oh wow, this is a tough question! I honestly have no clue. I guess there are many random or cool things that happened to me that other people would find far more interesting than what I am about to say, but for me, the coolest thing I have experienced so far is visiting New York for the first time. I remember getting up at 5 am, walking through Manhattan and observing the city and the people waking up – it felt really special to me. It’s a city that I’ve always dreamt of, so experiencing it first-hand kind of felt like making the intangible tangible.
